This 1990s black knit midi dress from British fashion designer Jean Muir (1966-2007) is a wonderful example of the understated elegance that was typical of Muir’s comfortable and effortless designs. This dress is a mid-calf length with a V-neck trimmed in black lambskin and long raglan sleeves. The dress fits in the shoulders and chest and then subtly widens down the length of the dress from 32″ at the chest to about 45″ around the bottom. It closes with a single button above a small keyhole opening behind the neck. The jersey knit fabric is 100% rayon (now often called cupro). Labeled size 8, but suitable for a size 6 as well. Please refer to the measurements for the best guidance regarding actual size and compare with a similar garment that fits you.* Note: This dress came from the estate of a renowned fashionista who shopped extensively at Ultimo, the legendary boutique that was known in the 1980s and ’90s for outfitting Chicago’s “dangerously chic” in avant-garde designer clothing. This dress bears both the Jean Muir and the Ultimo labels. MEASUREMENTS – Underarm chest measurement is 32″ – Waist is 34″ – Hips are 38″- Sweep is 45″ – Length is 46.5″ down center back.
