What is offered here is a combination purchase of 1 Tait T800 Slimline Repeater (receiver/transmitter both mounted in a 2u chassis with speaker and front panel controls, microphone jack, access to several adjustable pots for RX and TX operational settings) combined with 1 Milcom P15 series 150watt amplifier, all for use in the 900MHz band. We provide the working repeater which will need reprogramming to put it on the frequencies on which you desire to provide repeater service. It will need to be tuned and aligned for best performance on that part of the band. The TX side of these units typically put out a 5-7 watt signal, centered around the TX output frequency that you have selected for use. We also provide a working Milcom or alternately Powerwave amplifier. These are good solid amplifiers which were built for continuous duty service needed for use with repeater systems. These were originally sold rebranded as “Kenwood” amps. These are currently made and sold by Crescend as their “P15″ series units. The specific model number for comparison is P15-R2L1-XX-XXX. The amplifiers have a maximum input of 250mw – 400mw and a typical output of 140w-150w. NOTE: Using this amplifier with the repeater output at 5-7watts requires the use of an attenuator stage between repeater output and amplifier input which is NOT included with this purchase. Alternately the output of the repeater can be tuned lower to accommodate the lower input level needed by the amplifier. General Info:These units were removed from active service in the commercial portion of the 900 spectrum and stored when the Dallas company previously providing the service sold their spectrum allocation to a large telecom provider and closed their doors after 20+ years in business. The equipment converts to ham/amateur use very easily but does require some technical experience and expertise –as do all repeater/amplifier setups. We have had the amplifiers and the repeaters listed separately on eBay for several listing cycles. The repeaters are listed for $299 and the amps for $495, for a total of around $794+tax+freight. BUT as we are proponents of the 33cm/900MHz band and wish to make this easier for some of the groups out there to deploy 900 in areas with no repeaters available, we have decided to package the repeater and amplifier together at a discounted rate for clubs and/or enterprising amateur operators. So what you get in the shipment is:1 – Tait T800 Slimline Repeater 2u chassis that will fit in a 19” rack. It includes both transmitter and receiver.1 – Milcom or Powerwave (your choice) P15 series amplifier with sensor controlled cooling fans and power cable.These will be tested before shipment to make certain that there are no “DOA” units shipped, and that both units have confirmed RF output at the N-type output connectors on the repeater and on the amplifier. What you do NOT get in the shipment:No attenuator for placement between the units (used to prevent damage to the initial exciter/driver stage on the amp. The initial exciter/driver circuit is powered by an M677760HC driver module. If you overdrive it with more than 400mw input, it will cost you around $50 for another module from your vendor of choice. We DO NOT WARRANTY these and will NOT cover this if you blow the driver. You have been warned. And by clicking to purchase, you fully accept responsibility for any damage.). We cannot stress this point enough. These are the same final driver chips as are used in Kenwood’s TK981 radios. They are very capable but are easy to damage if overpowered on the input side. So just use an attenuator and avoid the problem in the first place, ok? We’ve tried to determine the best way to include the documentation and programming software but while some people have floppy drives, others don’t. Some have cdrom drives and others don’t. Some of the software requires being run from DOS. So using a USB drive is out. So we decided to include instructions for conversion by pointing to an online location where you can download the stuff directly and also get plenty of assistance from us and others who have done the conversion before. Be sure to include your phone number in the shipping info as requested. We will contact you with the info on how to obtain the software and configuration info. We also offer EEPROM Burning which will provide you with TX and RX EEPROMS programmed with all of the 900 Amateur repeater frequency pairs ready to go. You simply select the dip switch settings on the transmitter and the receiver that correspond with the frequency pairs that you wish to use. This is not included in the price for this combo listing but can be added for a small fee to cover the cost of NOS EPROMS or EEPROMS. After trying to use the UV erasing process on some of the old eprom chips, we began buying and burning new chips instead for increased reliability. Also please note that there are no dimensions stated other than weight in the shipping data. This is due to the fact that we sometimes just go ahead and make custom shipping boxes out of double-walled cardboard. The boxes are somewhat non-standard sizing which is less than ideal in terms of freight costs. But when possible we will make every effort to match standard box sizes, even if it means there are two boxes shipped to you instead of a single large box, to reduce costs. We do however require signature acceptance at your end. And we also insure the shipment for full value. Enjoy!!
