Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome. You are looking at a classic 1970’s era Shure Brothers 585SA Dynamic cardioid microphone with excellent sound quality and set at high impedance. The microphone comes with a short vintage cable, Shure mic clip and mic pouch shown. Pic # 2 is from a catalog I have showing all of the mics performance characteristics. This was a bread butter mic for Shure Brothers. They sold possibly tens of thousands of these during the 1960’s and 70’s as they were rugged, reliable, practical and provided a very clean sound. A mic that could be used for general broadcasting, singing and was even used as a harp mic by many musicians due to the high impedance setting. A real workhorse with excellent uni-directional characteristics. The mic is actually more of a mid range tone and if you get right up on the front grill it produces a bit more bass. These older mics are usually in rough condition after all these years so I have to put a lot of work into getting these up to par for resale but as you can see this example is pretty decent overall and has been thoroughly gone over. The satin chrome finish shows lite wear as seen in the pics provided. Some lite scuff marks on the handle. The satin chrome has a gorgeous luster even after years of handling. The Shure logo that encircles the globe looks pretty good with lite wear but completely legible. The chrome globe is free of any dents or odors. Just lite tarnish. I added a new inner / pop filter to the inside of the globe as the old one had completely fell apart and this helps greatly with the sound characteristics. This 585SA comes with a short 8 inch vintage Amphenol cable that’s in great usable condition and comes with a Switchcraft male XLR end connector. The cable is soft, pliable and free of any cracks or dry rot. You can add any longer XLR cable of choice as an extension. Just leave the short cable screwed on at all times. Far more practical. The mic clip is an original Shure A-25 model that works excellent for this mic giving the user a wide degree of tilt up and down and hold the mic tightly. The clip shows very lite wear and will screw onto any mic stand. The 585SA mice pouch is newer but is in very nice shape and will keep the mic safe and snug inside. A great accessory for resale value as well. A great package deal all the way around. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE…USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY. Overall I would rate this mic physically an 7 + on a scale of 1 – 10 in the cosmetic department. I would recommend actually using this piece rather than for display. She’s got plenty of life left in her. Made right here in America and built to last! As with all my vintage microphone and related items… I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid.
